Project Description

​

My idea is to use modular shape to design an LED light case or shelf that used to display objects for viewing. The display case’s surface is combined with 3 pentagon shapes. The viewer can adjust light brightness and the height of the display shelf for different collectible items.

I was inspirited by objects that combined with modular shapes, such as rectangle, triangle, pentagon, hexagon, trapezoid, and parallelogram.

The three primary types of color temperature for LED bulbs are:

The higher the Degrees Kelvin, the whiter the color temperature.

The light is fixed and it is collected with the base but not the display shelf. When the user rotated the hexagon shelf, there is only one section have light. The light is changeable.

THE CENTER SHELF IS INTERCHANGEABLE

Uses have to take out the dowel at the bottom of the display case and change the positions of the shelf.

I did some 2D modular shapes ideations. I select the ones with the most potent forms and make mock-ups base on the 2D sketches .

I chose the pentagon shape display case because it provides a larger surface to display products compare to the square and hexagon one. As the user adjusting the height of a single case, they have less to manage. The square and hexagon display is divided into too many sections.

Pre Final Model - Exploded view

Base on the foam core model that I made, I made some improvements to the new mockups. I put 4 magnets on the back of the case and I find out that actually two is enough to support the case. A single case in perspective view. It is about 17 inches height and I find out that I can make the length shorter. Display case base attaches with 4 metal steel bars.  

 

Pre Final Model - Conductive paint

I try to put conductive paint at the back of the display shelf and the base. The led light and wire are connected with the paint. However, my idea is to make a removable case with lighting with each shelf. If I remove the case and put it back, the positions of the case have to be very accurate to be able to turn on the light. 

I Try to place the led case on to the electrical paint, the position needs to be very accurate, in order to keep the led on.

The final product is combined with 9 different display shelves. Each level has 3 cases and the height of the cases are adjustable. I try to adjust the height of the case. For the final mock-up, I use the portable led light instead of the led strip.

I put two magnets are attached on the back of each case. The metal steel bar is at the center of the base. I adjust the height depends on the objects that the users display. The On and off touch switch. Hold the led to adjust the brightness.
